At Juniper Level Botanic Garden, part of our mission is to educate and share both plants and information. This photo/informational gallery is devoted to cataloging as many forms as possible. It is our hope that this photographic study gallery can also prevent duplicate use of names and prevent confusion in the trade.

Rhodophiala (Amaryllidaceae) is a genus of small bulbs related to Hippeastrum (commonly sold as amaryllis). While most rhodophiala species are native to Chile, we find most of these ungrowable in our hot, humid climate in the Southeast US. We have consequently focused on making selections of Rhodophiala bifida from Argentina, which thrives in a wide range of adverse conditions. This gallery contains some of our selections as well as from others with an interest in the genus Rhodophiala. We hope to be able to share some of our seed-grown clonal selections as we build up stock.
